S.T.A.N.D. Groups - Sunday Evenings

S. T. A. N. D

Structured Teaching and Nurturing Discipleship

The following small groups will run from September 12 - December 19, 2010-  Sunday's 6-715PM

  • SLIME (Susan Hammer) Nursery-5th Grade

Kids, join us Sunday evenings for SLIME where kids can get down and dirty and covered in God’s word! We’ll explore how to find God in everyday things: from home to school, fairy tales to science, music to cooking, even carpentry to square dancing. We’ll have something for all ages up through fifth grade. In our opening weeks, come make a mess as we stir up our own slime and discover what a mess we make when we try to do things our own way. The two main ingredients are FUN and YOU—so don’t miss it!

  • The Disciple Experiment (Pam de la Garza) – 6th-8th Grade

What Does It Mean to Be a Disciple of Jesus? So often we ask ourselves that very question – but just as often we stop with the question! Even if answers come to us every once in a while, seldom (if ever) do we act… But what would happen if we asked ourselves this question every day for a month? And what if we were armed with practical ways to act on our answers?

This class will provide the basics of evangelism and discipleship. You will have the opportunity to see that sharing your faith in Christ is not as difficult as you may think.

  • “I Am God”—Truths from the Book of Job (Jason Burchfield)

The feelings expressed in the book of Job are primarily those of affliction, distress, grief, misery, and doubt. Here are the cries of man who had a wounded spirit and deeply struggled to trust in God. Job was taught that when life seemed senseless and chaotic, that his only hope was to trust in God. This study will be an overview of how man is taught to live in light of the character of God.

Christians have a biblical worldview. Because of this, today's believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life's ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as a people and a nation.

  • Contagious Christianity (Gary Bowes)
To counter this slide within the body of Christ, we are launching one of the most ambitious and powerful projects in the history of our ministry—Focus on the Family's The Truth Project. The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This home study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.

ovement (also known as the American Restoration Movement or the Stone-Campbell Movement) is a Christian movement that began on the American frontier during the Second Great Awakening of the early 19th century. The movement sought to restore the church and "the unification of all Christians in a single body patterned after the church of the New Testament."
The Restoration Movement developed from several independent efforts to return to apostolic Christianity, but two groups, which independently developed similar approaches to the Christian faith, were particularly important to the development of the movement. The first, led by Barton W. Stone, began at Cane Ridge, Kentucky and called themselves simply "Christians.” The second began in western Pennsylvania and Virginia (now West Virginia) and was led by Thomas Campbell and his son, Alexander Campbell; they used the name "Disciples of Christ.” Both groups sought to restore the whole Christian church on the pattern set forth in the New Testament, and both believed that creeds kept Christianity divided. In 1832 they joined in fellowship with a handshake.
